Do less cars on the road mean less accidents? think again.

During uncertain times such as the one we are currently going through it can be easy to think that because there are fewer cars on the road that the chance of getting into an accident has decreased as well. This, unfortunately, is not the case.

While statistically, car accident reports will decrease based on the fact that the majority of people are at home under the Los Angeles County Safer at Home Order but essential vehicles are still on the road, such as trucks delivering goods to grocery stores, essential employees driving to work, as well as families out driving looking for the few places to eat. Some accidents will still occur because of the stress of the times and can result in erratic driving. In normal conditions free of Safer at Home Orders and pandemics, the average yearly death toll for car accident cases all around the world in normal traffic conditions is 1.25 million. While now the next study will show a presumably sharp decrease in deaths, this does not mean you should feel more relaxed while on the road. You must always practice safe driving techniques as accidents can still occur with hardly anyone else on the road.

If you find yourself in an accident be sure to follow these guidelines:

  • Call 911 right away and wait for the police
  • File a police report or at least get information to report.
  • Preserve evidence by taking pictures, exchanging information and getting any witness statements
  • Go to the Emergency Room or your primary care physician to get checked out.
  • Find a good personal injury lawyer.

Because medical and police personnel are being overwhelmed with the COVID-19 situation it may be of concern to you if they arrive at the scene promptly. If a police officer does not arrive in time be sure to contact a car accident lawyer as soon as possible as the police report can be critical to your personal injury case.

Another concern you may have is having to go to a hospital for your car accident injuries while most hospitals are flooded with COVID-19 cases. While the hospitals are doing all they can to isolate COVID-19 patients you should do what you feel is right for you. Be it staying home with your injuries or seeking treatment if necessary.

If you have been involved in a car accident during this unprecedented time do not worry. Lem Garcia Law is here to try and help as many people who have been injured in car accidents as possible.
