Heroic Bus Driver Saves 35 Children From Burning Bus

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA – A school bus filled with children erupted into flames in front of Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate school on Friday morning. Thankfully, the bus driver, who remains unidentified, was able to safely evacuate all 35 children who were inside the bus. None of the children were injured.

The full-size yellow school bus caught fire at about 8:15 am when firefighters were called in to respond. After the bus driver calmly evacuated all of the children, the driver tried to extinguish the fire herself but the fire was too intense for her to do it herself.

The fire spread to some vegetation nearby, but the firefighters were able to put the fire out by 8:28 am. All 1,325 children were evacuated to a nearby sports field during the blaze.

The cause of the fire is unknown. It started from the engine and reached the first three rows of the bus. The bus is now a total loss.
