The 5 best family fun trips in anaheim

Anaheim, California, is a beautiful city in Southern California, right outside of Los Angeles. Here you’ll find tons of fun and exciting things to do, regardless of age and interest. Families, whether visiting or local, have great options to make lasting memories and encourage activity and learning with their children. Here are five Anaheim attractions you and your family will want to check out.

Disney California Adventure Park

Disney California Adventure Park is an outstanding place to take the entire family. Filled with thrill rides, great food, and characters from your family’s favorite movies, this park is sure to provide everyone with a memorable experience. Located across from Disneyland, the adventure park is part of the Disney California experience.

Pixar Pier is many guests’ favorite attraction, as it features rides, games, and more from the most popular Disney/Pixar movies. Ride the thrilling Incredicoaster, the Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind spinning ride, or the Radiator Springs Racers racing rollercoaster. Serious “Cars” fans must visit Cars Land, an entire section of the park built to look like Radiator Springs. Grab a sweet treat at the Cozy Cone Motel, ride along in Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, and even meet Mater and Lightning McQueen during your visit.

Admission prices vary depending on the time of year you visit and how many days you stay. During peak times, which are typically on weekends and around holidays, a single-day ticket costs $135 for both Disney California Adventure Park and Disneyland. Regular single-day tickets are $117 per person and $97 on value days. A two-day pass cuts the cost a bit at $105, and each day added to the pass boosts your overall savings.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this park is temporarily closed. Plans are underway for a safe reopening in the coming months, so keep an eye out for more information.

Disneyland

We can’t talk about family attractions in Anaheim without at least mentioning Disneyland. This iconic theme park has been around since the 1950s and continues to be a popular spot for visitors from all around the world. Must-have experiences in the park include dinner at the Plaza Inn, Star Wars Launch Bay, Haunted Mansion, and Tomorrowland. Younger kids will enjoy meeting princesses at the Royal Hall and the Casey Jr. Circus Train.

If you’ve got older kids or simply want to find rides you’ll enjoy, check out the Indiana Jones Adventure thrill ride, the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Admission prices are the same as listed above for the Disney California Adventure Park. The same current restrictions apply in response to COVID-19, as well.

Flightdeck Flight Simulation Center

Families with teenagers and adults should check out the Flightdeck Flight Simulation Center. Just 2.5 miles from Anaheim, the center offers thrilling experiences for families interested in flying. Learn to fly a fighter jet or a Boeing 737 commercial airplane. Class and flight packages for fighter jets include a 30-minute class and 30-minute flight simulation in one visit with a minimum age requirement of 11 years old.

The commercial airliner experience is available to kids and adults 10 years and up. No flying experience is required. You can fly for 30 minutes, up to two hours, depending on the package. A 30-minute flight costs $89, and the prices increase by about $100 for every 30 minutes beyond that. You must book your experience ahead of time, so contact the center before visiting.

Thrill It Fun Center

Head to the Outlets at Orange for family fun at the Thrill It Fun Center. This destination hosts a variety of attractions, so you’ll find something for everyone in the family. You can ride a mechanical bull, take on the high ropes course, scamper up the climbing wall, play laser tag, and explore Ballocity.

You can buy access to a single attraction or purchase a package to save money and enjoy multiple attractions during one visit. Thrill It Fun Center is a great place for group parties, with a party room and up to 20 admissions. Pay $12 for an all-day pass to Ballocity, $9 each for laser tag and the high ropes course, $7 each for the mechanical bull and rock wall, and $1 per arcade game.

Discovery Cube

Just about 7 miles south of downtown Anaheim, Discovery Cube is a hands-on science museum filled with exhibits that encourage kids to learn and play. Families with children of all ages will enjoy a visit here. Young kids will love the interactive exhibits and Dino Quest, which is an outdoor exhibit where kids can dig for dinosaur bones and walk inside the body of an Argentinosaurus. They will learn about dinosaur organs and body systems and how to follow dinosaur tracks.

Another fun exhibit for all ages is the Water Gallery, where visitors can learn about one of the world’s most important resources. Kids can do experiments to see how water reacts to changing temperatures and movements. Be sure to stop by the planetary research station to see the earth from a unique view. The large, animated globe can show weather patterns, earthquakes, and other natural disasters from history.

Discovery Cube is typically open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. every day but is currently closed for renovations and building new exhibits. Check the website for reopening information so you and your family can be the first to experience the exciting updates. Single ticket prices cover one day of admission. Tickets cost $19.95 for adults, $16.95 for seniors, and $14.95 for children ages 3 to 14. If your family plans to visit a few times each year, definitely consider buying a membership.
